Teacher Appreciation Day, May 2nd: Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to all the amazing educators in Perth Amboy! Your creativity, patience, and passion for teaching tremendously impact our students’ lives. Your guidance, mentorship, and support help shape our student's futures, and we are grateful for the time and effort you put into making a positive difference in their lives.

“After The Fire” Presentation at Perth Amboy High School, May 2: The Boland Hall fire, which occurred on January 19th, 2000, at Seton Hall University, killed three students and injured many more. It was a tragic event that significantly impacted the Seton Hall community and brought attention to the importance of fire safety in college dormitories.

Survivors Shawn Simmons and Alvaro Llanos shared their experiences with Perth Amboy High School Seniors to promote fire safety and awareness. Their story is a powerful reminder of the importance of being prepared and staying safe in a fire emergency.
Thank you to the school district for sharing this important message on fire safety. Thank you to the Perth Amboy Fire Department for their continuous support and efforts to educate the community on fire safety and keeping our community safe.
El incendio de Boland Hall, que ocurrio el 19 de enero de 2000 en la Unversidad de Seton Hall, mato a tres estudiantes e hirio a muchos mas. Fue un evento tragico que impacto significativamente a la comunidad de Seton Hall y llamo la atencion sobre la importancia de la seguridad contra incendios en los dormitories unversitarios.
Los sobrevivientes Shawn Simmons y Alvaro Llanos compartieron sus experencias con los estudiantes de ultimo ano de Perth Amboy High School para promover la seguridad y la concientizacion contra incendios. Su historia es un podersoso recodatorio de la importancia de estar preparado y mantenerse a salvo en una emergencia de incendio.

City of Perth Amboy D.A.R.E May 1991: Throwback Thursday!
It's important to acknowledge the efforts of those who initially brought the DARE program, and their dedication to educating young people about the dangers of drug use and helping them develop skills to resist peer pressure is commendable.
By introducing DARE to our community, they have helped to promote positive behavior and support the health and well-being of future generations.

The City of Perth Amby's Police Department continues to host the 2023 DARE Program in 3 schools with a 2023 enrollment of 684 students!

Es importante reconocer los esfuerzos de quienes inicialmente trajeron el programa DARE, y su dedicación para educar a los jóvenes sobre los peligros del uso de drogas y ayudarlos a desarrollar habilidades para resistir la presión de los compañeros es encomiable.

We shared stories, laughter, and delicious food as we celebrated the special women in our lives. Spending time with these incredible mothers and grandmothers who have contributed so much to our community was an honor. 5K Walk for a cure for Hunter Syndrome, May 13th: Proud to see our Perth Amboy firefighters and residents stepping up for a noble cause! On Saturday, May 13, they joined hands to bring awareness to Hunter’s Disease, a rare genetic disorder that affects children. They showed us again that their dedication extends beyond firefighting, as they actively contribute to improving our city. Thank you to the Garabito Family for organizing the annual walk and all who came out to shine a light on the challenges faced by families dealing with this condition.

Perth Amboy Police Department has the largest percentage of female police law enforcement officers in Middlesex County.

Memorial Day, May 29th: Honoring Our Heroes: A Memorial Day Tribute
We gathered as a community to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have selflessly served our great nation. The Memorial Day ceremony in the City of Perth Amboy was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our local heroes. Their stories echo through the pages of our city's history, reminding us of their unwavering dedication and the ultimate price they paid.

This year, we remember with deep gratitude the seven Perth Amboy residents who gave their lives in the Vietnam War. Their names are etched forever in our hearts, and their memory will inspire us to cherish the freedom they fought to protect.

In addition, we had the honor of recognizing an exceptional individual, Mr. Walter "Pop" Rybarczik, a true American hero. At the remarkable age of 102, Pop served as a radio operator/gunner on a B-24 bomber in the Philippines during World War II. His incredible valor and commitment were evident through his 30 missions flown, a testament to his unwavering courage. Mr. Rybarczik's presence today reminds us of the indomitable spirit that resides within our city.

Let us take a moment to celebrate our local service members' bravery, commitment, and sacrifice. Their selflessness and dedication to our country serve as shining example. May their stories inspire us, encouraging us to uphold the values they fought valiantly to defend.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our heroes, past and present, for their unwavering service. Their sacrifice is immeasurable, and our debt of gratitude is eternal. As we reflect on this solemn day, let us remember their legacy, honor their memory, and strive to make a difference in our lives and community.

Nos Reunimos como comunidad para render homenaje a los valientes hombres y mujeres que han servido desinteresadamente a nuestra gran nacion. La ceremonia del Dia de los Caidos en la ciudad de Perth Amboy fue un conmovedor recordatorio de los sacrificios realizados por nuestros heroes locales. Sus historias haven eco a traves de las paginas de la historia de nuestra ciudad, recordandonos su dedicacion inquebrantable y el precio final que pagaro.
Este ano recodamos con profundo gratitude a los site residents de Perth Amboy que dieron su vida en la guera de Vietnam. Sus nombres estan grabados para siempre en nuestros corazones, y su memoria nos inspirara para siempre a apreciar la libertad por la que lucharon para proteger.

Hometown Hero Banners: For the first time in Perth Amboy history, we tribute to our military men and women through the Hometown Hero Banner Program. We are on Smith Street, Amboy Avenue, New Brunswick Avenue, City Hall, State Street, and Fayette Street.

You’ll discover the street location of each banner placement so that you can pay your respects and show your support in person.
If you don’t see your hero listed on the webpage, don’t worry! The City of Perth Amboy is still accepting applications for the banner program. We encourage you to apply if you know someone deserving of this recognition.
