Office of Tax Assessment

The responsibilities of the Assessor’s Office include maintaining various data on over 9,500 individual properties located in the City. This information includes, ownership, mailing address, location, year built, land sizes, and all the characteristics of the structure. The Assessor’s Office adjusts assessments accordingly, due to changes, such as demolitions, appeals, subdivisions, and improvements. The final valuation each year is the basis for the City’s property tax levy. In addition, the Assessor along with his staff reviews all property transfers and updates these records accordingly. Information and applications for the State mandated property tax deduction programs are also available from this office. The Assessor is a statutory position and must meet the requirements for State certification pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:1-35.25, N.J.S.A. 40A9-146, N.J.S.A. 40A9-148.
