Introduction

The Perth Amboy Mural Project is an initiative led by the Office of Economic & Community Development to bring high-quality, lasting public art to the heart of our city. This project will beautify our downtown, celebrate culture, and energize our streetscape for residents and visitors alike.

Project Description

We are seeking creative proposals for an outdoor mural at:

  • Location: 174 Smith Street, Perth Amboy, NJ
  • Wall Size: Approximately 18 feet tall by 80 feet long
  • Surface: Concrete wall (two-dimensional artwork only)

Artists may submit proposals individually or as a team. Designs may be realistic, abstract, or interactive, and must be original and unique to the site.

Application Requirements

  1. Cover Sheet with project name, artist name, contact information, and date of submission
  2. Letter of Interest (may include artist statement)
  3. CV of relevant experience with up to 3 professional references
  4. Up to 3 images of previous relevant work, including title, location, and date completed
  5. Scale drawing of proposed mural on 8.5" x 11" paper (color image preferred)
  6. Line-item budget including supplies, material costs, and commission rate ($ per sq. ft.)

Selection Criteria

  • Aesthetic Excellence: Artistic quality, originality, and innovation
  • Artist Experience: Demonstrated ability to execute public art projects of similar scale
  • Relevance: Design should be contextually appropriate and clearly translatable to wall dimensions
  • Budget: Clear and competitive budget aligned with project scale

Artist Eligibility

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must legally reside and be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must sign a participation agreement
  • Must agree to a minimum 3-year mural display term (extendable by mutual consent)
  • Participation in community events is encouraged
