    Smith Street is closed in both directions between Florida Grove Rd. and Highland Ave. until further notice.
    Expect delays and heavier local traffic.

    Closure details

    • Westbound: Closed from Route 35 to the Garden State Parkway bridge.
    • Eastbound: Closed from Highland Ave. to Route 35.
    • Additional closure at Florida Grove Rd. and Smith St.

    Detour route

    Florida Grove Rd. → New Brunswick Ave. → Crows Mill Rd. → Riverside Dr./Smith St.

    Keasbey residents can access their homes via Highland Ave.

    Information for Perth Amboy residents and commuters

    If you live or work in Perth Amboy and usually take Smith Street west toward Route 35 or the Garden State Parkway, use the detour via Florida Grove Rd.

    Please allow extra travel time.

    Background

    The closure followed a reported roadway displacement on Rt. 440/Smith Street between the Perth Amboy border and Highland Ave. Agencies on scene included NJDOT, Middlesex County Road Department and OEM, Woodbridge DPW and Police, and Perth Amboy Police and OEM. A full engineering review is in progress.
