Women’s History Month (March 1, 2023 to March 31, 2023)
Women’s History in Perth Amboy: Angelina & Sarah Grimke, the famous Grimke Sisters, were among the earliest activists involved in the Women’s Rights Movement. Both lectured across the East Coast on the equality of the sexes, From 1854- 1861 they were also Perth Amboy school teacehrs at the Eagleswood Academy.

Employee Appreciation Day – March 3: The City of Perth Amboy Participated in Read Across America. Mayor Caba reading “Anybody’s Game” in partnership with Amerigroup.

Fire Prevention & Safety at the Hansen Building- March 1st:

Girls Recreation Basketball League & New Jersey Latino American Trooper Society Award Ceremony – March 3: The Office of Recreation and the New Jersey Latino American Trooper Society hosted the Girls Recreation Basketball League and Travel Basketball Team Ceremony. The NJ State Troopers in attendance spoke of their experience as former student –athletes, the importance of education, and their reason for choosing a career in law enforcement. Congratulations to all the participants, parents, coaches, and volunteers, who made this an excellent season and award ceremony.

Saving, Spending, and Sharing Kids Workshop – March 4: Thank you to guest Speaker, Community Manager, Chase Bank, Melvin Rodriguez for educating our youth on how to manage their money at the Saving, Spending, and Sharing Kids Workshop at the Perth Amboy Public Free Library on Saturday March 4th.

Fire Prevention and Safety at the Stack Building – March 4: Thank you to the Perth Amboy Fire Department for hosting two workshops for our seniors at Hansen and Stack apartments on fire safety and prevention.

International Women’s Day – March 8:

Irish Flag Raising – March 17th: Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Thank you to the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Perth Amboy for hosting the flag-raising and to our elected official, Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, and city council members Torres and Puccio. John Dyke, City Historian, residents, and staff for joining in the celebration.

This Day in Perth Amboy History – March 20th: On March 20, 1950, the first triplets were born in the City of Perth Amboy are Perth Amboy General Hospital (now Hackensack Meridian Medical Center). Ramona, Rosalina and Rita Muniz, daughters of Ramiro and Clara Muniz from Puerto Rico. The Muniz family arrived in Perth Amboy in 1948 and became part of the collective legacy of Perth Amboy families, contributing to its rich cultural history.

2ND Annual Women’s History Month Celebration – March 25th: The Perth Amboy Free Public Library hosted the 2nd Annual Women’s History Month Celebration where women of Perth Amboy were recognized for their success. Greek Flag Raising – March 25th: The City of Perth Amboy recognized Greek Independence Day to honor Greek Heritage and traditions through the organizational efforts of St. Demetrio’s Greek Orthodox Church Parish.

Utility Assistance Fair – March 25th: The City of Perth Amboy thanks all partnering agencies at the Utility Assistance Fair held at Radiant Community Church where residents were able to receive vital information on energy assistance programs. Thank you to al of the representatives that were present from PSEG, Elizabethtown Gas, LIHEAP, USF, PAGE, NJ Shares, and Comfort Partners for informing our residents.

Perth Amboy Police Department is now hiring – March 28th: PAPD are looking to hire officers and are open to Perth Amboy residents. Must be U.S. Citizen, must be at least 18 years of age, and must possess a valid N.J. Drivers license.
