Black History Month is a time to reflect, learn, and come together as a community. Throughout February, Perth Amboy and our community partners are hosting programs that highlight Black history through conversation, art, music, youth engagement, and family activities.

February 2026 Events

  • NAACP Perth Amboy Area Branch Monthly Meeting

    Date: Monday, February 16, 2026
    Time: 7:00 PM
    Location: St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 68 James Street, Perth Amboy

    Monthly community meeting open to the public.

  • Moves That Matter: Black Excellence on the Chessboard

    Date: Thursday, February 19, 2026
    Time: 1:00 PM
    Location: Perth Amboy Free Public Library, 196 Jefferson Street, Perth Amboy

    Documentary screening highlighting trailblazing Black chess players whose brilliance and determination reshaped the game. Participants are invited to stay for open chess play and group discussion. Chess experience is not required.

  • Behind the Hits: The Black Songwriters Who Changed Music

    Live musical and historical presentation exploring the Black songwriters behind major hits across genres.

  • Live Black Museum

    Interactive museum experience featuring living portrayals of Black leaders and change-makers.

  • Black History Month Teen Paint Night

    Youth art program for ages 13–17. Registration required.

  • From Middle Passage to Freedom’s Shore

    Historical presentation examining Sandy Ground and one of the oldest free Black communities in the United States.

  • A Century of Black History: Art Exhibit

    Community art exhibit honoring Black history and local legacy.

  • 12th Annual Black History Month Celebration

    Annual celebration including community recognition and award presentation.
