• National Traffic Awareness Month
August 1 - National Night Out:

Thank you to the Perth Amboy Police Department, Chief Cattano and Officer Marino Feliz for a remarkable National Night Out! With the support of sponsors and an enthusiastic community, this event was a resounding success. Together, we strengthen the bonds that make our city safer and more connected.
Thank you to the Police Department, Department of Recreation, PRAHD and Target on raffling bikes which brought smiles to the faces of our community.

August 1 - National Night Out Swearing In:

August 6 - Battle on the Bay:

First Responders vs. Healthcare Workers - The Battle at the Bay Volleyball Tournament, August 5th
Congratulations to Los Viajeros for winning the 3rd Annual First Responders & Healthcare Workers Beach Volleyball Tournament. Perth Amboy Fire Department takes second place, earning the prestigious Abraham Pitre Memorial Trophy. Congrats to all participants for a spirited and competitive event!
Thank you to Hackensack Meridian Health for hosting the tournament and all 12 teams participating in this year's successful volleyball tournament.

Runyon Water Plant

Thank you Luis Perez Jimenez for the tour on August 9th of the Runyon Water Treatment Plant that serves as our city's crucial water infrastructure. The health and safety of our community is our top priority, and this visit demonstrates the commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water to all residents.
🔬 During the tour, we highlighted the processes and technologies that go into treating and purifying our water supply. From filtration to disinfection, every step is designed to meet the highest quality standards.
Our responsibility doesn't stop here – we are continuously investing in modernizing and upgrading our infrastructure to stay ahead of emerging challenges and ensure the long-term well-being of our environment and citizens as well as understand the efforts that go into keeping our water safe.

August 10 - Pops vs. Cops:

Dominican Festival

Huge shout out and heartfelt thanks to the United Dominicans of Perth Amboy and ID Entertainment for organizing an unforgettable 2023 Dominican Festival from August 11th to 13th. Special appreciation to all the musical celebrities, special guests, and residents who attended. The City of Perth Amboy proudly celebrated our Dominican heritage!

August 16th - NJDA Press Conference:

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA) hosted a press conference at Rose Lopez Elementary School in Perth Amboy in partnership with Mayor Helmin J. Caba, the City of Perth Amboy, and the Raritan Bay Area YMCA. NJDA announced that New Jersey is the number one state in the nation feeding our children during the summer, according to Food Research and Action.
Thank you to Raritan Bay Area YMCA, the City of Perth Amboy’s Office of Recreation, and Alyssa Kennedy, Summer Food Service Program Coordinator, for overseeing the program in Perth Amboy.
Together, we can ensure that every child's plate is filled, every parent's burden is lightened, and the spirit of Perth Amboy shines as a beacon of hope for generations to come.

August 18, 2023 - Jewish Renaissance Foundation New Location:

The Jewish Renaissance Foundation proudly unveiled its new home for the Family Assistance Center (FAC), Perth Amboy Alliance for Community (PAAC), AmeriCorps, Alternative Education Institute, Adult Academic Services Training and Testing Center, and My Choice Store at 533 New Brunswick Avenue.
This location is not just a building but a continuation of its incredible journey toward empowerment, education, and hope.

August 19 – Perth Amboy McGinnis School Cadet Corp.

We are incredibly proud of the Perth Amboy's McGinnis School Cadet Corp. for their impressive presentation of the colors at the Jets vs. Buccaneers game on August 19, 2023. Their precision and dedication were fully displayed as they showcased their commitment to discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
Though the Buccaneers secured a 13-6 victory, the real winners were the students who proudly represented their school and our city.
Let's celebrate their hard work and honor their potential as leaders of tomorrow!

August 21: Back to School Bash

Thank you to the Jewish Renaissance Foundation's PAAC program, Amerigroup, and the Perth Amboy Police Department for making the Back to School Bash a success. Free backpacks and essential school supplies were provide, setting our students up for a successful school year ahead.

Concert by the Bay

The City of Perth Amboy proudly honored Mr. Chris Pedersen Jr., Conductor Emeritus, a native of our city, who devoted over 50 years as the Conductor and Music Director of The Garden State Symphonic Band. He continues the legacy of Concerts By the Bay, established by his father, Christopher Pederson Sr., in 1907. The band's diverse repertoire includes classical and contemporary pieces, reflecting the universal language of music. We express our gratitude for Mr. Pedersen's exceptional contributions and musical journey.

August 21 - Back to School Bash:

The City of Perth Amboy partnered with the Jewish Renaissance Foundation's PAAC program, Quick-Stop Deli, Amerigroup, and the City of Perth Amboy Police Department for the Back to School Bash.

August 22 – 15th Annual Bike Ride in Honor of Police Officer Tommy Raji:

Honoring the Legacy of Officer Thomas Raji – A Call for Change

Dear Residents of Perth Amboy,

As we remembered the 15th anniversary of a somber day etched into our city’s history, we gathered to honor the memory of one of our heroes, Officer Thomas Raji. On August 22, 2008, that tragedy struck at the intersection of Route 1 and Green Street in Woodbridge, snatching away a dedicated officer who had committed a decade of his life to safeguard our city.

As we reflect upon his sacrifice, we're reminded not only of the dangers our law enforcement officers face daily but also of the devastating consequences that can arise from the reckless actions of a single individual.

Officer Raji's life was cut short by a senseless act of drunk driving, a tragedy that shook our city at its core.

In commemoration of this solemn occasion, members of the Perth Amboy Police Department, joined by current and retired officers, including Councilman Kenneth Puccio, united with the Woodbridge Police to pay their respects at the site of the accident and Officer Raji's final resting place. This unity and remembrance underscores the unbreakable bond shared by those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our city.

As we pay tribute to Officer Raji's memory, let us embrace the opportunity to effect positive change in his honor. We are currently in the midst of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative, which aims to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence. This initiative aligns with Officer Raji's legacy, serving as a poignant reminder that a single decision to drive while impaired can instantly shatter lives.

I urge each and every member of our city to stand united against the dangers of drunk driving. Let us remember Officer Raji by making responsible choices and encouraging those around us to do the same. Together, we can ensure that his sacrifice was not in vain and that our city remains safer.

May we never forget Officer Thomas Raji's dedication, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. May his memory inspire us to build a better future in which our roads are free from the devastating consequences of drunk driving.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

The City of Perth Amboy Police Department is proud to participate in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from August 16 to September 4.
Let's work together to spread awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.

🚫 Don't take chances – have a plan for a safe and sober ride whether you're driving, riding, or hosting. Remember:
🚗 Before you start drinking, ensure you have a sober ride home.
🙅‍♂Prevent others from driving under the influence.
🏠 Hosting a gathering? Make sure your guests have a way to get home safely.
