PERTH AMBOY, NJ — At first glance, the number is striking. But when viewed project by project, Perth Amboy’s redevelopment momentum reflects more than $1 billion in private investment aimed at transforming long-neglected properties across the city.

Over the past five years, the Caba Administration has advanced a redevelopment strategy focused on cleaning up contaminated sites, restoring inactive industrial parcels, and returning underused land to productive use. Properties that once sat vacant or inaccessible are now being repositioned for housing, commercial activity, logistics, and public amenities.

City officials say nearly 300 acres of contaminated land across Perth Amboy are being remediated and brought back into active use. The broader effort has reshaped areas that had long been considered stalled, blighted, or difficult to develop.

“When people see the changes happening across Perth Amboy, they should understand what’s behind it. This work is about improving everyday life in our neighborhoods, from safer streets and better parks to new opportunities along the waterfront.”

Redevelopment Strategy

The city’s approach has centered on turning environmentally challenged and dormant sites into assets that support neighborhood improvement and economic growth. Officials describe the strategy as both practical and long-term, pairing environmental remediation with private-sector investment and site readiness.

The projects now underway or already completed include redevelopment on former industrial land, mixed-use and residential opportunities near the waterfront, and large-scale commercial activity on parcels that had previously sat idle for years.

Visible Change Across the City

According to city leadership, the redevelopment work is producing visible changes across Perth Amboy’s neighborhoods. Formerly fenced-off or vacant tracts are being repositioned for active use, while key sites along the waterfront and other strategic corridors are being reintegrated into the city’s economic future.

Officials say the goal is not only to attract investment, but to improve quality of life through safer surroundings, stronger public spaces, and better connections between redevelopment areas and the surrounding community.

Looking Ahead

As redevelopment continues, Perth Amboy is framing the effort as a citywide transformation rooted in cleanup, reinvestment, and long-term neighborhood benefit. With more than $1 billion in private investment tied to projects completed or in progress, city officials say the work represents one of the most significant redevelopment pushes in the city’s recent history.
