PALLONE SECURES $1.5 MILLION FOR VETERANS MEMORIAL YOUTH LEAGUE COMPLEX PARK IN PERTH AMBOY

July 5, 2022 Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced that he secured $1.5 million for the Veterans Memorial Youth League Complex Park in Perth Amboy in the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Subcommittee spending bill for Fiscal Year 2023. The House is expected to vote on the underlying legislation in the coming months.

The funding will be used to complete important park improvements and create new opportunities for recreation. The upgrades will include drainage improvements and the construction of multipurpose fields.

This announcement is great news for Perth Amboy and everyone who uses the Veterans Memorial Park. I’m glad I was able to secure $1.5 million for the city to invest in recreation and sports fields for young people. With this funding, the community will have access to state-of-the-art fields that will greatly enhance the park’s value for students and residents,” Pallone said. “I look forward to seeing this project move through the legislative process.”

Our city has been uniquely recognized for producing athletes and sports activities that have impacted our residents’ quality of life," said Mayor Helmin J. Caba.By working with Congressman Pallone Jr., we understand the importance of reclaiming this park for its future. There have been no significant improvements since the 1980s to its baseball fields or its buildings. With the support of this funding, the anticipated improvements will provide more opportunities for passive recreation with the construction of walkways around the park while providing the best recreational spaces for our residents. It also complements the construction of the new high school next door that our sports teams will call home.
