Perth Amboy Awarded $83,450 Clean Communities Grant

PERTH AMBOY, NJ – The City of Perth Amboy has been awarded an $83,450 Clean Communities grant through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Solid Waste Division.

The grant will support local efforts to keep Perth Amboy clean through volunteer and paid cleanup events, equipment purchases, enforcement activities, and educational programs focused on litter prevention.

Mayor Helmin J. Caba attended the New Jersey Clean Communities Council’s annual grant announcement ceremony at Kean University on May 4, where municipal leaders from across the state were recognized. As part of the event, Mayor Caba also signed the Keep America Beautiful pledge to continue fighting litter throughout the community.

“The City Council and I are always looking for ways to push Perth Amboy toward a cleaner, greener future,” said Mayor Helmin J. Caba. “Our Department of Public Works conducts numerous programs aimed at keeping our town litter-free throughout the year. It is through programs like Clean Communities that we are able to keep our streets, open space, recreation areas and city streets clear of litter and debris.”

According to the New Jersey Clean Communities Council, Perth Amboy has consistently been among the top cities in the state when it comes to fighting litter. The organization works with municipalities to support cleanup efforts, anti-litter education, and programs that protect local waterways.

In total, the NJDEP is awarding $22.4 million to eligible municipalities and $2.8 million to counties across New Jersey for cleanup programs, public education, and enforcement of litter-related laws and ordinances.

The Clean Communities grant program is funded through a legislated user fee on manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors that produce litter-generating products.
