Perth Amboy Earns 2025 Safe Routes Silver
The City of Perth Amboy has been named a Silver-level recipient in the
2025 New Jersey Safe Routes to School Recognition Program. The award, announced by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Safe Routes Resource Center, celebrates communities that promote safer walking and biking for students.
Honorees from our community include both the City of Perth Amboy and Dr. Herbert N. Richardson School. This recognition affirms our city’s continued efforts to support safe, accessible, and healthy transportation options for youth.
“This recognition reflects the tireless work of our city departments, especially our Office of Recreation, Department of Public Works, Police Department, and Planning Division, along with the Perth Amboy Board of Education and passionate residents who have taken the lead in shaping a safer, healthier community. When our schools and city work hand in hand, and when residents get involved, we build more than infrastructure. We build trust, connection, and a stronger Perth Amboy.” — Mayor Helmin J. Caba
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program is a statewide initiative that encourages students to walk and bike to school by creating safer routes and educating families about the benefits of active travel. Recognition levels of First Step, Bronze, Silver, and Gold are based on implementation and sustainability of safety initiatives.
