Boil Water Advisory
Applies to: All customers served by the City of Perth Amboy municipal water system
Status: Water pressure has been restored and water quality testing is underway.
Last Updated: March 4, 2026
What residents should do
Until further notice, residents should boil tap water for one (1) minute and allow it to cool
before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing food, or making ice.
Residents may also use bottled water.
Why this advisory was issued
A Boil Water Advisory was issued after a temporary loss of water pressure in the distribution system.
When pressure is lost, there is a potential for contamination to enter the water system.
State guidance requires a Boil Water Advisory until testing confirms the water meets safety standards.
What the City is doing
- Working with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and Middlesex Water
- Conducting water quality testing throughout the water distribution system
- Monitoring system pressure and water quality as laboratory results are received
When to expect updates
Updates will be posted as laboratory results are received. If testing confirms the water meets all
safety standards, the advisory will be lifted and residents will be notified.
