Greater Middlesex & Morris Habitat for Humanity Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Two New Homes in Perth Amboy

November 14, 2024 – Perth Amboy, NJ

Greater Middlesex & Morris Habitat for Humanity (GMM Habitat), a leading advocate for affordable housing in New Jersey, proudly announced the completion of two new homes in Perth Amboy. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 13 celebrated the collaboration of volunteers, donors, and community members who brought these homes to life for an Army veteran family of five and a civilian family of four spanning three generations.

A Special Dedication to Community and Service

Mylcaryz Dellossantos, an Army veteran and first-time homeowner, expressed heartfelt gratitude:

"As a veteran and someone who values teamwork and resilience, today’s celebration reflects the spirit of unity that brought us here."

The Dellossantos family, along with the Velez-Camacho family, now begin a new chapter in their own homes, thanks to the collective efforts of over 400 volunteers who donated nearly 3,000 hours to the construction process.

Honoring Veterans During Build Week

The event coincided with GMM Habitat’s Veterans Build Week, a national initiative supporting veterans and military families through housing solutions and community projects.

"Our veterans have devoted their lives to protecting our freedoms," said GMM Habitat CEO Liz DeCoursey. "This week is a testament to our collective gratitude and commitment to their well-being."

Transforming Lives Through Partnerships

Perth Amboy Mayor Helmin Caba joined the celebration, highlighting the significance of homeownership:

"Today we’re not just looking at homes; we’re looking at futures. This is where love and dreams will grow."

Both homes received full interior design services as featured on NBC’s George to the Rescue. The episode showcases the transformative power of community partnerships and can be viewed on the George to the Rescue website.
