James M. Cryan, CPM – Business Administrator
Jamie Cryan, CPM, brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in government, finance, and technology, including senior leadership roles in several of New Jersey’s most operationally complex communities. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation for strategic leadership, operational expertise, and a strong commitment to public service.
Under the Faulkner Act, the Business Administrator serves as Perth Amboy’s chief administrative officer and highest-ranking non-elected official, overseeing the day-to-day operations of municipal government.
In this role, Mr. Cryan works closely with elected officials, department heads, employees, and residents to ensure efficient, effective, and responsive government services. His responsibilities include overseeing municipal operations and budgets, strengthening organizational performance and accountability, supervising personnel administration and labor relations, leading strategic initiatives and special projects, supporting redevelopment and infrastructure improvements, and enhancing constituent services and public communication.
All department heads and municipal professionals report directly to the Business Administrator, ensuring coordinated leadership and effective implementation of the Mayor’s policies and initiatives.
Known for his collaborative leadership style and commitment to community engagement, Mr. Cryan emphasizes professionalism, accountability, communication, and measurable results. He is focused on modernizing operations, improving organizational efficiency, and delivering dependable, high-quality services to residents and businesses throughout Perth Amboy.
Mr. Cryan has also served in leadership roles with statewide public sector organizations and civic initiatives, including the New Jersey Certified Public Manager Advisory Board, a partnership between the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and Rutgers University–Newark School of Public Affairs and Administration dedicated to advancing excellence in public sector leadership and management.
